Mosquitoes

I just worked as a night security guard in an office building. I actually enjoyed my new job, but there was an incident one night that made me have to quit my job… forever, and start looking for other types of work.

The building where I work has 17 floors, with 2 basement floors as a parking lot and a warehouse. There’re basements which called basement 2 for the lowest and basement 1 for the upper one. The access to basement 2 also has to go through basement 1 because the elevator only reaches basement 1. From basement 1, there is a ramp or wide sloping lane to basement 2 which is intended for vehicle parking if the parking lot in basement 1 is full.

From the stories I often hear from my co-workers, basement 2 is pretty haunted. You often hear a lot of footsteps and the roar of cars from under the ramp every midnight, although they know that rarely anyone wants to park in basement 2 because most who have parked there were disturbed by invisible spirits. Moreover, it happens every midnight. But how many employees are overtime so that it sounds very noisy below, in basement 2? Like I said, access to basement 2 must pass through basement 1 so every employees or anyone who are in basement 2 can be seen through basement 1.

I, who was then placed in basement 1, turned out to confirm the stories of my colleagues. Annoying noises often arise from basement 2. I swear I don’t want to go to basement 2 through the ramp even though I am accompanied by all my colleagues.

In fact, not infrequently I heard moans and screams as well as unclear cries from there. Honestly I was very annoyed. I even wonder what the former place was. Even though it is rare or maybe no one is parked in basement 2, during the day it is still used to store unused items in one of the corner.

Luckily one night I was assigned to guard on the top floor of the building. The open view from the top floor is a delight to see. In addition, the ceiling was directly moonlit, making me forget about my daily experiences while being on duty at basement 1.

At the top of the building while waiting for my turn on guard, I took a quick sleep at the post guard. I don’t forget to always rub on mosquito repellent lotion because of course there will be lots of mosquitoes. After that I closed my eyes while enjoying the night air that came in through the windows. Then, as usual, I heard one by one the mosquitoes approaching me. The mosquitoes started buzzing around my head. It doesn’t matter because I used mosquito repellent lotion.

The longer the mosquitoes were getting more and more annoying. Its buzzy sound filled my head. Is it because this room is so open that there are more mosquitoes this time? But there is something odd here, I no longer hear the hum like mosquito buzzing. The voice grew more sinister like a growl. I am shocked. I opened my eyes at once and got up from my bed.

There were no mosquitoes, and nothing. Blank. Ah, maybe it was just a dream or a feeling just now considering I was really sleepy. But suddenly my consciousness recovered a hundred percent and I ran around looking for my other co-workers.

I don’t remember I slept in basement 2.
