Going to My Hometown

Dark Road

This is a story I experienced myself and my family in 2013 while going to my hometown, Majalengka but we decided to not taking the main route, but through street that across villages and ricefields, where almost every road section is filled with farms and forests.

It was still early in the morning, where the panorama seen was indeed quite beautiful and soothing under the shady trees. The car driven by my brother-in-law who drove smoothly without any significant obstacles to our hometown which is located in Majalengka.

At that time we still did not use a GPS system that could be seen on Google Maps via a smartphone, so we were still manually looking for road directions. Shortly thereafter there was a road sign that read that Majalengka was still 75 km away as I remembered.

Once you know the road directions, we happily drove towards the destination. The view either side of it is just shady trees, nothing more than that. However, in the midst of my sister who is the wife of my brother-in-law as the driver said to me,

“Nanda, do you see the little boy that turning his head on us among the trees?”

I replied, “No, I did not.”

“That he is, very clear!”

I still don’t see him. I honestly admit that my sister has a special power where she can see spirits. According to her, the figure of the little boy was black, I mean black as his whole body is black and he is quite small, seems like a five year old boy. I believed and just simply ignored it.

It has been more than an hour that we have driven along the existing road, where the view is still unchanged, the road surrounded by shady trees. Until from a distance we can see the road signs again, and we want to see how many kilometers are left towards Majalengka again. Because we thought that after an hour or more of driving at a fairly stable speed the remaining distance would be drastically reduced.

When we got close enough we immediately took a closer look at the street signs where it reads,

“Majalengka… 75 km.”
