Butcher

Butcher

Working as a butcher is not what people think. I actually really enjoyed it. It’s true that the floor flooded with blood must have happened when I slaughtered the beasts. But maybe because this has become my profession, I’m very used to it. After all, later you will eat the meat too.

I usually slaughter a goat, cow, or even a buffalo depending on the company’s request at that time. But lately maybe because the market demands and other companies’ rivals have been overflowing, I feel very uncomfortable with the policy changes of the company I work for. Soon I left and intended to build my own company.

What happened after that was utterly unexpected. Just when my company started growing, I experienced something really bad. My employee ran away and I suffered a huge loss. Plus the orders suddenly dropped and I was broke. Until finally I got an intense pressure from my family and of course the gossip from the neighbors because they thought I could no longer support my family.

Until one day, one of my old friends came and told me that an acquaintance was in one of the islands in the North Maluku archipelago in desperate need of a butcher service. I objected a little because the destination was too far, but my friend motivated me to the point that I got excited. I immediately thanked him and immediately told my family about this happy thing.

They were happy, of course I immediately packed the things I needed before my friend escorted me to the airport the next morning. My friend can only drive me to the airport, he then gave me some money and instructions on how to get to my destination. Honestly, it’s my first time getting on a plane, and the trip to Maluku didn’t take too long.

By taxi I continued my journey from the airport, the argument would be paid using the money from my friend. Maluku is now a little modern, I can see a lot of industrial areas here. But until 2 hours of travel, I had not arrived at my destination. The industrial areas have been replaced by shady forests where sunlight can hardly get into this area.

Even when I arrived at my destination, I still had to take a small boat and walk another 1 KM to get to the factory. I became a little worried about this, but it was all I did to support my family. After all, my friend was my best friend in high school, I only had faith in him. He also gave me more money, a sign that he really responded to this matter with no joking around. I also bring some money if something happens, especially in remote areas beyond my previous expectations.

When I arrived I was quite surprised because the factory was quite spacious, but when I finished the interview, I was ushered into the room that will be my workplace. Not far from there I was put into a hut which I assumed was the place for me to spend the night. The salary offer is quite large and is given a number of strict company regulations. I’ll be working there from tomorrow.

The condition of this room was almost entirely different from what I’d been in the factory before. I can feel the smell of blood even though I have cleaned this room so many times. The atmosphere turned uncomfortable, I felt a lot of negative energy around me. It seems because it is in a remote area and is rarely used place. It was only natural that such a terrifying thing happened. Still, I can’t seem to adapt to my new environment.

At night when I wanted to sleep in the hut there started things I really didn’t want to happen. I admit that the previous factory was haunted too, but here I am quite disturbed. Starting from a sudden scream, then turned into a crying sound. Then I realized I was completely alone, with minimal lighting, without the other employees, even though I saw many of them working in the factory earlier.

My bed seemed as if something was shaking, my pillow seemed as if something was tugging. I was very scared, but I tried to think positively and never tried to open my eyes. I thought they just wanted to be acquainted, and it was common the first time around. I kept thinking about all that until I finally fell asleep.

The morning is the time to start work, I wait until the order comes to me and do what has become my routine. Shortly thereafter, someone who claimed to be my seniors appeared, delivering several requests for me to slaughter. They looked very neatly wrapped and bound, looking like they were quite new and fresh. My seniors weren’t there long and left immediately after giving me some instructions and a deadline.

To be honest, I want to go home, working in other people’s areas especially in remote places is not my dream. Especially seeing the reaction of my seniors who are cold and unfriendly. After I got an assignment, I delayed my work a little to call my friend. But I realized my phone had no signal. I crept out of the room and I saw that the gate was tightly guarded, and everything was under control. I remember the rule was that employees were not allowed to leave during working hours.

I returned to my room and I grabbed the cutting tools to do my part by complaining. I miss my village atmosphere there. I give up working overseas especially in remote places like this, even only for lowly staff like me. Indeed food for me is provided, but that is not to my liking because it smells very bad and is very limited. My seniors set work targets with a little inhumanity, seeming to really disrespect my existence. Looks like I have to go home and find another type of work. Lasting for a month seemed impossible, which would have to be less that a week and asking for my early salary as return fare.

And now in front of me exactly laid my orders that was struggling, screaming in fear at me.

I say to him, “Shut up, I’m also fed up with this job!”

I just realized there I was not a butcher, I was hired to slaughter an employee who violate work regulations.
