Transjakarta buses are public transportation that I use daily to go to my office. The reason is besides being cheap, it has special lanes than other public transportation so it is faster, and the most important thing is that it is comfortable even though almost every day I can’t get a seat because it is full of employees who also want to go to their respective offices.
Until one day, I was forced to overtime for two weeks because of very tight office deadlines. However, because I remember Transjakarta buses are already operating 24 hours, I’m not worried about how I get home.
At exactly 10.30pm, I rushed home from the office to the Grogol stop for the first time experiencing the night Transjakarta bus. It was also my first time seeing the streets of the capital which was very quiet, in contrast to usual. Ah, maybe because the folks were asleep.
I am excited to welcome my first experience riding this bus at night. At exactly 10.45pm the night bus arrived. The buses are different from the day ones, I heard that night buses are the result of reconditioning the operator’s buses that are no longer operating. The light is dim, it must be quite difficult to see if a small object falls. But it’s okay, the bench looks new, soft. You can see that the bus number is BMP 111, a pretty number. The clerk still looks fresh, maybe it’s a night bus shift.
The driver was driving the bus a little recklessly. Maybe because of the empty roads that made him run a little faster. Screeches could be heard everywhere. Understandably rejuvenated old bus. Some of the passengers who could be counted on the fingers didn’t seem too concerned. Most of them are busy with their cellphones and fall asleep. I really enjoyed the trip. And I finally arrived at my boarding house perfectly.
The next day I came home a little late so I just got a bus at 11:10pm., with the bus number BMP 112. Coincidence, huh? The rest is the same as yesterday.
Then the next day I came home late at night. And only got the bus at 11.30pm. Then guess what, the bus number is BMP 113! Cool coincidence. But tonight was different from usual. The bus is more comfortable, the driver is not careless, and the staff is more polite. Wow, it’s just getting more comfortable.
The next day I got the bus again at 11.35pm. However, this time the bus number was not BMP 114, it was still BMP 113. Until I memorized that the BMP 113 bus passed around half past 12 at night. Then the bus becomes my regular bus every time I come home from work overtime.
I enjoyed all the night trips until finally in the last two nights of my overtime, I faced events that made me more careful with night trips. As usual I rode BMP 113, and it’s normal. Until finally I left the destination stop and for some reason at that time the crossing lights were off. I saw someone standing at the end, not clearly visible. I was suddenly reminded of the many cases of harassment that had occurred at the pedestrian bridge that had poor lighting. Oh yeah, sorry I forgot to say my name. I’m Lisa, a private employee.
I was very tired and sleepy, so I couldn’t help but have to go through it. If he does anything, I will have my weapon ready and will scream out loud. The closer it got, my feelings were getting worse. And it turned out that it was true, the figure was not human, only black without appearance. I ran past it as fast as I could and I was in contact with that figure with a very great feeling of goosebumps. The creature, I don’t know what it’s called, when I passed it like it was hitting the curtain. Apparently he has no body. Only the head in the black shirt floated.
The next day is my last night of overtime and I have to force myself to take the bus that night. Hope the pedestrian bridge lights at the destination stop are back on. When I got to the Grogol stop, I saw that the clock was still 10.30pm I don’t know why I only want to ride BMP 113, maybe because the comfort is like my own home.
While waiting for it, around 11:15pm my cellphone rang. Oh, there is a Whatsapp message from my friend who happens to be boarding in the Grogol area.
“Hi, I saw you at the Grogol stop earlier. Are you still overtime? ”
“Yes, and I’m still here.”
“What? Why wait that long? Is the bus taking so long to arrive? ”
“Not really, I even rejected 2 buses. I’m waiting for the special bus which usually comes in about a minute. The comfort is really great compared to other buses.”
“Oh, I see. What’s the bus number? There’s nothing wrong with me trying it sometime. ”
“You Transjakarta maniac! Hahah. You note that the bus number is BMP 113. ”
“What? How many?”
“BMP 113! There’s no way I wrote the wrong bus number I subscribe to. ”
“But Lisa, BMP 113 is gone. Because at that time there was a terrible bus fire incident when it was carrying many passengers.”
Seeing my friend’s reply I was suddenly petrified, in cold sweat. Not long after, my friend gave me a link that directed me to a news about this. After I opened the link and read it, what was said was true. This terrible accident took many victims.
I looked back at the clock on my cellphone and it showed 11.28 o’clock. I suddenly remembered something that caused goosebumps on my hair. I ran as hard as I could go out of the stop. I’ll stay at my friend’s flat tonight.
And it’s true, the BMP 113 bus came, I saw it from a distance. It can be seen that the bus is nothing strange and operates as usual. Inside there are several passengers. Oh yeah, that’s a reconditioned bus. I forgot, maybe the bus that had caught fire had been rebuilt and operating normally. I regreted that I left the bus stop.
But then I went straight to my friend’s flat as soon as I realized that all the passengers on the bus were looking at me blankly, and the bus was driving slowly…
…without any bus staff and driver.
