How Islam Fights Anxiety and Social Insecurity

My friends, maybe some of you already know that Islam came with the motto “Rahmatan Lil Alamin” which means mercy for all nature. “Rahmat” itself can mean affection.

Some people suffer from mental illness in the form of anxiety and social insecurity. There are people who must prepare themselves heavily just to talk to other people.

“Introvert” may not be exact term for this because social insecurity can affect anyone.

The question is, why this social insecurity can occur?

My dear friends who are loved by Allah the Exalted, if in a community there are enough people who experience social insecurity disorders, it is very likely that the surrounding community has failed to provide a sense of security.

Keep in mind that this sense of security is not an attempt to protect someone from thieves, or other criminals, but what is meant by this sense of security is providing comfort.

In fact, providing a sense of comfort is highly emphasized in Islam. Prophet Muhammad PBUH said:

“Indeed, the best among you is the one with the best character.”

And giving a sense of comfort is part of good morals. He (PBUH) also said:

“Won’t enter heaven whose neighbors feel insecure from his/her bad behavior.”
(HR. Ahmad)

My friend, please know that insecurity arises because of excessive anxiety. Especially if we look at people who are not as lucky as those who are still not getting a job at the age of 30, or just failed their business, or having unusual hobby, or even having physical disability.

Some of us aren’t even ready to join people because we’re afraid they’ll ruin our happy days. In fact some of us consider many of the others to be immoral.

Perhaps on the severe side, a slightly raised talk intonations can be disastrous for people with social insecurity.

So what to do if we find someone who suffers from anxiety and social insecurity?

The main thing is that we must be sensitive to people who having social insecurity. Ask how their day was and try to be a medium to get them to let go of their worries.

My friends, please note, letting go of people’s sorrows is an act that is highly valued in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said in this regard:

“Whoever relieves a Muslim of some worldly distress, Allah will relieve him of some of the distress of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever conceals (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will conceal him (his faults) in this world and the Day of Resurrection. And whoever relives the burden from a destitute person, Allah will relieve him in this world and the next. Allah will help His slave so long as His slave helps his brother.”
(Narrated by Muslim)

So, what are you waiting for, make helping to release the sadness of others into a field of worship for us.

My friend, keep in mind, that good deed will return to its owner. If we like to make other people’s life easy, we will get an easy life too. Insha Allah.

At the end, I present you three entertainment memes about anxiety and social insecurity, please enjoy! 😉
