Moslem Should Look Like An Arab

“Do I have to be like an Arab when I become a Muslim?”

My dear friends, why are Muslims more stigmatized like Arabs, because that is where the history of this religion came down. But what you need to remember is, not all Arabs are Muslims, some of them are Christians and even Jews, or followers of other religions.

What you see about how to dress Muslims like Arabs like wearing a head scarf or hijab, or growing a beard and wearing a gamis, is actually an Islamic tradition, not an Arabic tradition. I believe that if the majority of Arabs had a religion other than Islam, then the culture might be different.

See? Arabs who are non-Muslim, they do not wear the hijab for women, and for the men they do not wear gamis and they do not grow their beards. Even turbans that are tied around the head, more Hindu Indians wear them than the Muslims themselves. But that doesn’t mean that Hindus have to wear turbans, right?

It’s completely alright if you want to wear jeans or other clothes as long as it covers your curves and doesn’t stimulate other people’s sexual desires (in Islam it is called Aurat). Whether you’re praying or doing your daily activities.

For my female friends, hijab is an Islamic commandment in which women are required to cover their hair so that their honor is maintained and their hair is not enjoyed by just anyone. So the hijab is not an Arab culture, maybe because Arabs are mostly Muslim so there are many women who wear the hijab.

As for my male friends, lengthening the beard is only a sunnah or recommendation as an identity for Muslims. If it does not grow a beard it is okay, as the Prophet Muhammad said, as follows:

“Be different from the idolaters, cut your mustache and leave your beard long.”
(Reported by Muslim)

Then why are there many Muslims outside of Arabia who look like Arabs?

My friends who are loved by Allah, we Muslims really idolize our Prophet, Prophet Muhammad, and He is an Arab, so imitating his clothes is one of our outposts as his ‘fans’.

Just as you idolize an artist, you might buy any merchandise related to him or fill your room with their posters. I think we are Muslims too when we idolize our Prophet. 😊
