“Why are many Islamic countries like in the Middle East or northern Africa often poor and underdeveloped?”

Dear friends, if a country claims to be an Islamic state, they are required to become a developed country. Because if you go back to history, the Europeans were so dark that in the end many of them studied in Muslim countries. From there the terms Algorithm, Avicenna, Alcohol, and other Al-Al were known. They were Muslim geniuses.

No history can deny it at all. Muslim countries were so advanced that the other countries learned from us.

But why is the reality so different today? Some Islamic countries are not only poor, but also many civil wars.

My friends, even though we know that Islamic countries have Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Egypt, Qatar, and a few more as examples of Muslim countries that have progress in contrast to other Muslim countries, if we look at countries such as Somalia, Ethiopia, Yemen, and Syria, this is illustrated as messy country.

Moreover, the fact is worsened that almost no Muslim has won a Nobel prize, apart from peace ones. Even if there is, that is a little, very little of them.

My friends, let’s return to our respective adherents. Sometimes we Muslims, often take pride in our choice of religion and focus too much on things that are so basic. As a result, it seems that we Muslims are too satisfied with our little religious knowledge, even though we are not a Mufti or Ulama.

We think too much of this world to be insignificant, in the end we forget a concept taught by our Prophet, Muhammad PBUH. He said,

“The best of humans is the most beneficial for other humans.”
(Narrated by Ahmad, ath-Thabrani, ad-Daruqutni. This hadith was produced by al-Albani in Shahihul Jami ‘no: 3289)

And it is the duty of Muslims in this world to collect as many points as possible so that in the hereafter (akhirat) they can enter heaven. What we shy away from the world is any glamors, because they only last a moment. The rest of us are required to study because with knowledges we can illuminate the world, and can be our helpers in the hereafter.

My friends, sometimes we understand that many who have little knowledge are arrogant and feel they know best. But most of us are like that, right? This is the reason why many Muslims feel that their knowledge is sufficient even though they are still not knowledgeable enough but have the courage to argue with other and carry out religious orders half-heartedly. This is where the chaos starts.

So if my friend wants to Islam, be a Muslim completely. Because in addition to being able to gain as much world knowledge as possible and contribute to the benefit of many people, you can also feel the pleasure of worship more and admire God’s creation more than those who lack knowledge.
