7 Reasons Why Almost Everything Is Getting Boring Nowadays

Everything Is Getting Boring

I have feeling that every day every thing I encounter, whether in the real or virtual world is getting boring. Whether it’s music, design, movies, articles, or even sports. It’s not that there’s not any great content out there, but I just feel that I’m getting less and less in terms of having not a dull and uninspiring things today.

I saw the results on the internet, that I was not alone, really not alone. Google’s results on “Boring Nowadays” showed me with so many mixed results. Do you feel the same way? How could this happen?

Now that I think about it, maybe 7 of these things are causing fewer and fewer offerings that we can enjoy right now.

It’s all about trend

Today, the music genre that almost we listen to everytime is a rap music, for the example. So the trending things that we often listen to on the radio, internet, or maybe waiting room almost all sounded like rap. Similarly, smartphone designs are becoming increasingly stiff and unattractive. Everything is just rectangular in shape and like that. Remember we used to have a unique cell phone design?

Not a problem to have a such mobile phone design, because I see it is an efficient design. But, it seems like this kind of mobile phone design has become a ‘sign’ that this is the kind of creativity that we will enjoy in the future.

Not to mention the monotonous and (too) minimalist designs either in pure art or it is a webdesign that we have seen thousands of times. Or we might be tired by a bunch of extremely similar effects in the world of photography. Indeed, those effects is cool I admit, but they are getting increasingly boring. What can we do, that’s the trend already that most of us should follow?

Easier tools and so many newbies

In the past when I saw a result of photo manipulation by image processing software such as Adobe Photoshop, I was amazed and astounded. Now? Just an ordinary feeling. Perhaps too many people have been able to operate the tools because what I see nowadays is almost everything can be done in just a few clicks.

Tools are made to facilitate our work actually have an impact on the number of monotonous works produced by people who do not really understand what art is. Even the work of newcomers can be compared with professionals because of those provided tools.

Moreover, there are so many tutorials and templates that can be enjoyed for free from the internet today. Templates that should have been used to speed up the work, were only slightly modified and claimed as a grand work by someone without doing a noticeable hard work. No wonder so many creative contents are so similar lately that lead to generating much boredom.

Just for industries and money

When I gave up looking for good musics which would survived in my device for days, I got a thought of searching old school music on Youtube and indeed I was harvesting a lot. And while I was listening to one of the musics on Youtube, I saw a comment about something like this,

Why can’t we get musics like these nowadays?”

The reply was enough to make me get sort of click in my mind, “Because most of today’s music is only for industries and money.

So there are only very few artists who create pure content from the heart that stores various kinds of emotional memories and events, and the worse they don’t get enough spot light to spread their wings.

Maybe if you listen to the old-school musics, you will think that this is really a music we used to enjoy and they are timeless. Likewise with movies and video games in the old times, they are not just “oh good” work, but an absolute works that can be enjoyed at any time.

Limited area

Although today we can make things more complex thanks to easier and more flexible tools we got than in ancient times, but the situation seems to be opposite than we expect. We seem to be constrained by something we don’t even know. Almost every writer seems to be confined in similar thing, as well as game developers focus too much on graphics or tremendous music and sound effect, so does the movies.

I used to play a billiard game on Nintendo Entertainment Systems. The game is not only poke the ball into the holes, but also each hole sometimes has its own bonuses and challenges. I’m impressed. Even after the level is complete, a unique level of challenge will show and you have to think hard to complete the challenge. Side Pocket, the name of the game.

Today? People are only constrained to get graphic compliments and gameplay that embed modern features such as acceleration or gestures. But it is not a unique game we get, instead a game that only makes us bored from day to day. At least to this day I still play Candy Crush from 2016 and always got to the last level waiting another new level on weekly update, wishing something new on there, lol.

Other scopes are the same, such as today’s musicians who are confined to inserting techno-themed instruments, photographers who are too restricted to apply effects such as long-exposure at waterfalls, bokeh, and so on. If they don’t apply it all, they will feel outdated and look stupid. Most of the mindset are just like that.

Lack of imaginations

I contacted a friend in Norway, where we had once developed an old school games. I told him about how the game was today and he answered with a very good answer,

“But I feel at times that people focus too much on high quality and realism, and forget imagination. I think of it like books. Literal books don’t have pictures at all but still, books come to life through our imagination. I think games can work in a similar way.”

Well, I could not agree more. Thanks fella!

Weird innovations

An article on the internet I found (forgot I didn’t bookmark it, sorry) concerned about today’s innovations that are so strange and not really important. Let’s say a cellphone can be bent or even foldable screen. I do not understand why they are competing to create such features. The reason might be to be more pocket-friendly if not social status oriented.

Web developers like me will feel more confused with the innovation because I will adjust the screen width twice or even more.

Then the smartwatch that I also did not understand for what they are intended for. Even ordinary watches can handle time better than a gadget which has to be charged when its battery runs out. Even now, I don’t have a tablet because I simply don’t need it.

From the number of the innovations that look cool, how many can really be useful?

Bad influencer

Finally, the influencers. They are responsible for all these things because those who participated in popularizing trends and doing massive marketing of something great which eventually becomes boring. You might think you have already seen this content over and over.

They use slogans to scare people into what they would call old-fashioned or boomer if they didn’t follow the trend. Even social media such as Youtube and Instagram also take part in this via their static algorithm.

Mainstream media sites are also competing to include ‘false positive’ people to fill their site’s traffic, which in the end the creators only become dust from another lumps of dust, none of them really become gold or at least silver and bronze. Real sad.
