This is the experience of my flat neighbor named Arif who is now deceased. His horror and thrill stories can be said to be very, very numerous. At least I summarize it from the lightest first, namely this story.

It was Arif, who was still a student at the University of Indonesia at that time. Because he was overseas with some of his other friends, they agreed they wanted to rent a house as a place to live. I forgot the exact location because the story was so long.

Finally, a house that was being leased was found, and the owner gave a very unreasonable price, because he considered it too cheap. Imagine, at that time a house was rented for Rp300,000 (US$20, @$1=Rp14,500) per month, whereas at that time a house was rented for a minimum of Rp500,000 per month.

The contract owner also looks cold and not very friendly. But it can’t be helped, getting cheap contracts to hang out with (only three people actually) is a very good thing. Immediately at that time Arif and his friends took up the rented house.

The rent is standard, like an ordinary citizen’s house with one level. There is only one room and there is a kitchen and bathroom. Arif and his friends started doing their chores in the house.

In the afternoon, one of his friends wanted to go to the bathroom, but he saw a woman standing in the kitchen with her back to him. Not really cared about, he still went into the bathroom. After that, Arif’s friend told Arif that he saw a woman in the kitchen. Hearing this, Arif and other friends went out to the kitchen but they didn’t find anyone.

“You may have seen it wrong.” replied his friends. They finally went back into the room.

A moment later they hear a sound of falling plates and someone cooking. Arif and his friends were clearly surprised. There is no one in the kitchen.

In the evening, things got more tense. There was a voice laughing and crying a woman from outside the room. Arif and his friends couldn’t do anything in the midst of their fear. Arif, who was angry, rebuked the creature not to disturb him. But he got the reply from the outside by a loud banging sound like a large object being thrown to the door.

The voice of crying and unclear words could be heard again from outside. And now it sounds like someone is scratching at the door. The sound of falling objects shouted from outside the room. Holy verses were recited, but laughter came back from outside the room. The figure seemed to be pacing around the house and making a real noise.

Even during the night, the disturbances from outside room returned so that no one dared to come out. To the point, one of Arif’s friends prefers to wet the bed instead of risking his guts to leave the room.

The next morning, Arif and his friends decided to go out of the window. A resident who was suspicious had shouted at them ‘thieves’. But then it was explained why they did this. The landlord was then summoned and invited to discuss. Only then did he tell the truth about what happened.

Why did he rent the house out at a very cheap price, because there used to be a student gal who also contracted at his rent. There was never any news from the resident again after a while, the landlord came in and found her body lying rigid in his room with an enlarged stomach. It is suspected that she was pregnant and then committed suicide. Considering the consequences, the landlord is forced to reduce the price so that the rent will continue to get new residents.
